ABOUT LECMPA
A Proud Past, a Promising Future
LECMPA was established in 1910 as a cooperative assessment insurer. Our first policyholders were Locomotive Engineers, Conductors and Streetcar Motormen, who pledged to financially protect each other from the perils inherit in their hazardous occupations.
Today, LECMPA provides wage loss protection and other benefits to 30,000 union transportation workers throughout the United States and Canada. We are a member-owned, not-for-profit Association regulated by the Michigan Department of Insurance and Financial Services, which routinely reviews our performance.
We differ from our competitors because we are owned by our members, and don’t have to satisfy shareholders who aren’t union transportation workers. That means every decision is made with our members’ best interests in mind. Our funds are used for member claims and to safeguard their future financial security.

Leadership
I’m a railroader who grew up in railroad households, where Soo Line callers would ring my engineer dad and conductor grandfather at all hours. During college, I landed summer employment with the railroad. Then, in May of 1998, I was hired onto “the Chessie” and spent the next 23 years working the road in engine service and serving as a union officer. Like my father and grandfather, I made the wise decision to purchase job insurance.

We Know Transportation
LECMPA maintains a North American sales force comprised of union transportation workers just like you. Most of our representatives are currently employed at railroad or other union transportation jobs, or retired from those jobs. Many are also satisfied LECMPA policyholders. They know firsthand what it’s like to be a transportation worker, and how important wage loss protection is to properly support your family and give you peace of mind.

Annual Reports
We welcome you to examine our Annual Reports. In these editions, you’ll see that LECMPA continues to earn accolades from its members for its protection, service, and care. We do things differently from our competitors, listening to our members and their labor representatives when they experience a setback. No cause of discipline automatically excludes consideration of payment. Our track record proves that we go the distance for you and your family.
